Script Evolution to

Cinematic Design and Film Form

This is the first inquisitive step toward visualising David Sloley’s audio series, Made in AI – an animated comedy-drama created in the vertical format.

My role included realising the concept in shape and tone – establishing our characters and story world. I developed the idea in script and thumbnail sketches, with scratch audio to gain impact and pacing.

Storyboarding

for Virtual Production

This investigative animatic was later shot on a Virtual Production stage using an LED Volume.

To create an efficient shooting schedule, the 3D backgrounds were scouted and proven during the storyboarding process. Thumbnail sketches established the action. The shots were replicated and developed for authenticity within the volume.

Script Visualisation

for Live Action Filmmaking

There’s a Pill for That, is a short film by Tristan Nelson. Creating the storyboard gave the script shape, pace, texture and tone – to create a visual anchor.

I developed scratch audio, alongside thumb nail ideation and visualisation to create an animatic that assigns point of view, aids production and intensifies the story’s emotion.

In filmmaking, unless you have something you have nothing. The animatic creates the screenplay in film form for the first time. Using the storyboard, it tests pace, tone, character, theme and point of view. It is gound zero. The first critical step.
